Mohammed Shami Made his international debut under Mrs. Dhoni, but some of his best performances came when Virat Kohli was the leader of the Indian team. Shami and Kohli share great companionship both on and outside the field. Both have played an important role to help India win many important games.
Shami recently revealed that he had no idea how his nickname ‘Lala’ came about. However, the Bengalse Zeemaner believes that Kohli could have been the one who came up with the name. Shami also said he has trouble understanding why he was given the name.
“I also don’t know when it became permanent. Virat may have done it. He only does such things. I just thought, once, what kind of name is Lala, even Shahid Afridi had that name. But I don’t understand why I have this name. So I let it be,” he said in an interview with News 24.
Shami calls one batter who would have worried him
Shami was asked if Kohli is the more difficult Slagman to bowle in the Indian Premier League of Rohit Sharma. The 34-year-old praised the percussion opportunities of both the loyal Indian cricket.
“So far there has been no slag for me who would come in my dreams, or I have to think a lot about or take it out for the game. It depends on who is set. Both (Kohli and Rohit) are great players, and both are great individuals in Indian history. They have made a name for themselves,” he said.
Shami said that bowling would have been very difficult for Cheteshwar Pujara. The Amroha born in Amroha expressed that he was lucky to play in the same team as the recently retired Pujara in Test Cricket.
Shami was not picked in the team of India for the tour through England, because the selectors are reportedly worried about his fitness. The veteran also failed to reach the India team for the approaching Asian cup. Shami will want to do well for East Zone in the coming Duleep trophy and the selectors of it remind us of his class.
