Fittr towards a preventive healthcare ecosystem, to set up diagnostic laboratories: CEO Chouksey

Fitness company Fittr is moving towards offering holistic preventive healthcare, combining diagnostics with doctor consultations, to tackle non-communicable diseases, said founder and CEO Jitendra Chouksey.

The company has earmarked investments of up to ₹15 crore to set up company-owned diagnostic labs in five metros, while also working with partners to expand its lab network to 5,000 PINs across India, Chouksey told PTI.

“We are moving towards a preventive healthcare ecosystem, where we combine diagnostics with doctor consultations, along with coaching and wearable monitoring, to address one of the biggest pain points in the country today, which is the growing number of NCD (non-communicable diseases) deaths happening in the country,” he said.

Previously, Fittr operated primarily as a fitness company, providing nutrition and training services with the help of coaches, he noted.

Chouksey responded to a question about how the company is doing after ten years of existence.

Noting that 63 percent of deaths in India are due to non-communicable lifestyle-related diseases, he said, “By 2026, we want to focus first on combating diabetes as it is currently the number one killer. Diabetes causes cardiovascular diseases, which lead to more than 30 lakh deaths.”

As part of the plan, the company has announced a campaign ‘diabetes test at Re 1 for all Indians’ to coincide with the completion of its 10-year operations, he said, adding that Fittr would “try to make other essential tests free as well” in the future.

Fittr plans to expand its diagnostic labs in five metros and collaborate with existing players in tier two and three cities, with the aim of covering 5,000 PIN codes.

It is currently present in 2,500 PIN codes through a network of more than 200 laboratories.

For Tier II and III cities, the company has partnered with Healthians, he said, adding that Fittr is in talks with other diagnostic service providers for a partnership to expand its reach.

“We have earmarked around ₹10-15 crore for expansion of labs in five cities,” Chouksey said, adding that while the Pune is ready, Fittr would set up proprietary labs in Bengaluru, Gurugram, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai in a phased manner.

“We plan to expand coverage to at least 5,000 PIN codes across the country.” When asked about financing the expansion, he said: “We are positive about the cash position, so we want to finance this expansion ourselves.”

For any future expansion, the CEO said, “We will try to raise some money, but the idea is to first make these labs profitable and then see if we can continue to fund ourselves, and if a partner wants to come along and share our journey and join us, then help us, that’s fine.”

At this time, the company is not in active fundraising discussions, he said, adding that it has raised nearly $20 million over the past decade.
