When Shubman Gill was asked during the presentation after the game what he had learned about the six weeks about his team, the Indian skipper replied with a boosting smile: “That we never give up.”
That perfectly recorded the character of this series, writes Megh Mandaliya.
It was the kind of competition that would be next to Roger Federer vs Rafa Nadal debates.
It had every ingredient of a classic: resilience, tight margins and fixed determination from both sides.
After 25 days of intense, hard -fought cricket, the series has still not crowned a champion.
Both teams fought with tooth and nail and England has had to beat India in a test series since 2018.
The match series of five tests ends in 2-2, such as a cliffhanger without upcoming episode.
The series
England started the series with their second largest successful Run-Achtervolging in test history, while the visitors packed with a tense six-run victory, which was also included in the size of their narrowest victory.
It rarely a series that fans kept addicted for so long, as long as all five games went the full five days, an achievement that is not seen since the Ashes 2017-18 and only the fourth time since 2000.
The labeling of this as a series dominated by the success would not be an exaggeration because it collected 7187 runs over five games.
That is only 34 points shy of the Ashes in 1993 in England, in which 7221 runs were seen in six test matches.
The unusually wet English conditions and wickets without demons also helped to be equal to a 70-year record, because England and India stroke people combined for 21 individual centuries, the highest total leveling in a downstairs, which was initially set by the West India and Australia in 1955.
Shubman Gill
In the midst of many pre-series chat about Gill, the 25-year-old critics certainly silenced his consistent sparkle.
He gained 754 points in 10 innings and surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s 47-year record of most runs (732) by an India captain in a tool.
The right -handed Slagman also became the first Indian to score more than 700 points in a TOOT in England and only the second captain after Sir Don Bradman to achieve this performance.
Joe Root, on the other hand, continued his dream by adding another three centuries to his count and is now just behind Sachin Tendulkar on the list of all time Run scorers in the format.
It was not the kind of series that Bowlers dreamed, but they still found ways to make an impact when it counted the most.
Mohammed Siraj and Chris Woakes did most of the workload for their respective parties and sent 185.3 and 181 respectively over the series.
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj came the opportunity – took 16 wickets in just four innings on an average of 19.81 and corresponded to the record of his idol for most wickets by an Indian in a downstairs in England (23 Wickets in nine innings).
Woakes can be on the list of Wicket-Takers on the list of Wicket-Takers, but his actual value was in control, with only 3.17 points per over the five tests, which played a key factor in England’s efforts to contain India’s batting.
Oval test
The oval test competition was a suitable conclusion of this series full of drama.
For a large part of the last innings, the momentum of England, even when Gus Atkinson pushed an injured Woakes to fall between the wickets.
The Harry Brook-Joe Root Stand, which was the third highest partnership for fourth innings (195) for any wicket in the oval, brought back spooky memories for India of the Jonny Bairstow-Joe Root Onslaught in Edgbaston in 2022.
But the pacers of India kept chipping away and refused to withdraw.
In the end, the only thing was needed was one 143 km / h bullet from Siraj to turn a resilient England and close the Deadlock series.
